City officials to David Miller: don't tax booze. They reasonably pointed out that consumption taxes don't work when people can just drive thirty minutes to evade said taxes. In response, Miller pouted and ran up to his room, refusing to come out for dinner.

So Torontoist hasn't actually read Ulysses but does that mean we can't celebrate Bloomsday? Of course not. Tomorrow is the real-life anniversary of the fictional day chronicled in Joyce's Ulysses (the book told the story of one day in the life of Leopold Bloom).

This is a sight that has become equally as common as it is unfortunate this winter. People all over Toronto have abandoned their relationships with the Jester Toque. No longer is this light-hearted look there to put a smile on our face during those unfortunate downtimes. The entertainers of our city streets have sadly opted for more traditional styles to warm their heads this winter season.

Maggie MacDonald is a busy woman. As one of the most visible members of the Hidden Cameras, MacDonald is often seen on Toronto's stages bopping along to Joel Gibb's catchy anthems to enemas, fear of commitment and golden showers. MacDonald also plays in a number of other bands in the city including the Dating Service and Republic of Safety. So it's not like she needs another project on her plate.

The Toronto Film Festival is fully over and has been for nearly a week, with staff having made their way back from their temporary offices in hotels and malls, volunteers returned to their usual jobs or schools, and stars returning to… their lives of going to parties and hanging out with other stars (not a big change there, then). Now all the films are over and the red carpet has been rolled away, most of us are quite happy to forget about the festival for another year, and indeed, many of us got kind of tired of it by the end. So Torontoist is here to take a look at some reasons why we should still be in love with the Toronto Film Festival.

Despite the fact that Kensington Market is one of the most creative neighbourhoods in the entire city a good art gallery has never really been able to set up shop in the neighbourhood until rental gallery/shop/concert venue Xpace came along.

Like a stressed out Bay Street banker Toronto Life was in need of a facelift, maybe some botox or at least a really good makeover.

, due out in March, has been hailed by the Boston Globe as "another swirling experiment in psychedelic rock."

Often referred to as the Broken Social Scene babes (of which Feist is included), Emily Haines of Metric and Amy Milan of Stars are indeed scorching hot. However that is not the issue here. The constant recognition of their natural, milk-fed beauty shouldn't trump the importance of their musical contributions to our fair city, or their actual music. So Torontoist will have to drool over the two in a later post. (This will be necessary since Chart Magazine dedicated a whole issue to Emily Haines's hotness, unfairly ignoring the hot Amy Milan).

Meanwhile, Torontoist's favourite new author, David Bezmozgis, was denied the Giller, but shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. Another G, and a prize total of around the same G's, so Bezmozgis shouldn't be too displeased. When we heard him read at the Ashkenaz festival a few weeks back, he seemed an entirely affable fellow (not at all like that Jonathan Goldstein, whose profanity-laced reading caused two long in the tooth and short in the hearing bubbes to run for the exits). And Natasha and Other Stories was one of the best books of recent vintage. So Torontoist is going to support D-Bez in this upcoming election.
