As the unofficial fansite of Roncesvalles' favourite success story (and one of the oldest operating movie theatres in this country), Torontoist is pleased to tell you about another exciting event being staged by the good folks at the Revue Film Society. This time, money will be going towards brand-new educational initiatives the theatre aims to have up and running in early 2008, including a film school for neighborhood kids. For the past couple of years, The Toronto Zine Library has been one of the better-kept secrets of the city’s literary set. And we’re not talking about the shoddily maintained zine collection at the Reference Library either.

The Revue cinema is due to reopen its doors on October 4th, and if you’ve been waiting for the chance to buy tickets for the opening night, they’re now on sale at She Said Boom (393 Roncesvalles Avenue) at $20 for the film and the after-party or $10 for just the party at the Lithuanian Hall (1573 Bloor Street West). The opening night film is secret, but it was selected by an online poll, so it’s one of the films on this page, probably!

Toronto's beloved beaches officially opened yesterday for the summer. The opening of the beaches comes as four of our beaches were internationally recognized for fantastic water quality by Environmental Defence: Cherry Beach, Hanlan’s Point Beach, Ward’s Island Beach and Woodbine Beach.

2005_01_28heshe.gifEvery winter, you lie in bed dreaming about how great the summer will be; hot days, loosely-affixed beach towels, revealing outfits, sweaty sexual encounters, hot...smelly...feet? Ah! Wake up...that's disgusting. Summer is just like any other season, it's got its ups, and it's got its downs. And you can't expect to breeze into Torontoist's favourite time of year without a little bit of primping and prepping.

She Said Boom! is taking a stand against the men who wrote songs "Clumsy" and "Naveed" and...can't think of any others at the moment.

2005_01_28heshe.gifLast weekend may have been Canada's Day, but this weekend Toronto reigns supreme with a host of festivals and concerts taking place across the city. And Torontoist knows what this means: tourists, and lots of them.

2005_01_28heshe.gifTorontoist believes that this sudden burst of summer weather has something to do with the excitement for part three of the he said/she said Summer Dating guide. This week, we take a look at some of the city's best places to eat on a date, with a focus on both vegetarian and carnivorous diets. And what makes this post so special is that it is the guest blogging debute of Matt Blair, Torontoist's new He. While discussion "business" to get today's post ready, it was discovered that Matt had recently become vegetarian while Paige had recently switched back to eating meat. Eager to defend their dietary choices by romantic standards, we present He Said/She Said Summer Dating carnivore versus vegetarian.

Summer is supposed to be a time when everyone you know is either free from responsibilities, or pretending to be. And the friends you know and love congregates back home so Toronto can become the venue for every party, event, and activity possible.

We know that we make it look easy, delivering to you, faithful Torontoist reader, the He Said/She Said dirt every Friday. But what you don't know is that a lot of rigorous research must be done in order to get to the heart of the issue at hand. Sometimes, our columnists must spend hours at their computers - discussing issues, researching, critically examining the issues.

No wonder Torontoist is so down today! It's the saddest day of the year. The combination of post-holiday depression, the glum weather, paying credit card bills and of course being both fat and ugly has made January 24 the bluest of the blue Mondays. On the bright side though, there's only four days until the next He Said, She Said column.
