Save Our St. Clair, the group that fought against the St. Clair right of way has reared its head again. The group has backed four candidates whose wards run along the route of the right of way. Three of them are incumbents (Palacio, Nunziata and Michael Walker). John Sewell who's running against the right of way's strongest defender Joe Mihevc gets a strong thumbs up from SOS.

Big news on the municipal election front. Former mayor John Sewell wants back into the concrete clamshell. He's running in Ward 21 against Miller ally Joe Mihevc. Sewell has the support of Margaret Smith and many from the Save Our St. Clair campaign that lobbied against the right-of-way.

During months of campaigning in the area during my recent federal political adventure -- a disappointing personal outcome, though much satisfaction from the larger victory -- I found virtually no support for the project that would narrow sidewalks, congest traffic, reduce street parking and delivery opportunities, complicate left turns and increase pedestrian wait times, while improving streetcar travel times by barely a minute or two.

The TTC has gotten approval to start construction on the St. Clair Right of Way. Hopefully this ends the protracted legal squabble that had more twists and turns than a John Grisham novel, including a decision overturned because one of the judges had a conflict of interest. Torontoist, has strongly supported faster, better transit and honestly doesn't feel that a ROW will destroy the neighbourhood like the folks at Save Our St. Clair claims. Inconvenience cars and deliveries maybe, but destroy a whole neighbourhood? Last time I checked the best way to do that was not fixing gridlock and by pushing a heavy amount of traffic onto your streets.
