If writing about music is like dancing about architecture, then there's probably no easy way to write about dancing choreographed to music composed about architecture. Except, perhaps, by making comparisons to movies.

Who knew that a year ago, while surly construction workers were working away at completing the incredibly polarizing ROM Crystal, the ROM's head honchos decided that the new building needed a signature drink to go with it? It may seem odd to picture the charmingly quiet-natured former Globe and Mail editor and current ROM Director and CEO William Thorsell pounding back different martinis with the ROM's governors and trustees and arguing well into the night about how to meld different liquors together, but it was necessary work to try to create the ROMtini—the liquid embodiment of the new ROM.

Like much of Toronto, we've been a little ROMsessed this week with the opening of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, and now that the public has been allowed in for a peek while it's empty (until June 10), some fantastic photos continue to be added to the Torontoist Flickr pool. With all the hype around our jagged new conversation piece, what tickles us most is how Torontonians are talking about and celebrating architecture a lot more these days—and that people are rediscovering the ROM. Some of those children gazing up into Libeskind's deconstuctionist crystal will undoubtedly be inspired to build more of Toronto's great structures in the decades to come.

Have you checked out the officially unveiled ROM Crystal yet? Some cool dudes like David Foster, Deborah Cox, Jann Arden, K'naan, Natalie McMaster, David Suzuki and Governor General Michaëlle Jean [AND CLAY AIKEN!!!—Ed.] were on scene for the dedication.

First incandescent light bulbs, now toilets: at the recommendation of David Miller, the Ontario government will consider banning conventional toilets to promote low-flush toilets. Low-flushies use only 6 litres of water per flush, while regular toilets will use anywhere from 13-25 litres to flush. Not only would the ban save Toronto 26 million litres of water per day, it would eliminate the need for $60 million in water and sewage-treatment capacity. Here's a ban everyone can feel good about, except Dave Barry.
