For years, SummerWorks has been kid sister to the Fringe. Smaller, shier, not quite as well-known (if often more reliable thanks to its policy of juried play selection as opposed to Fringe's random lottery). But there comes a summer in every kid sister's life when she starts going through some "special changes" and suddenly all her older sibling's friends turn their heads when she walks by the pool in her tankini. We already started......

Photo of In-Flight Safety courtesy of Craig Norris of CBC Radio 3. There are those who snidely believe the Hillside Music Festival is all politically-motivated tie-dye and body odour, but that’s a cursory dismissal. The 2007 version of the festival brought together the indie-kids and the hippies, the families and the staunch loners, and the musicians and the fans into a community of solar-powered folk and rock music that blistered throughout the weekend. Toronto......

There are milestones in every band's life, like appearing on the cover of a local weekly. http://www.rockplazacentral.com/">Rock Plaza Central did not only that this week but contemplated their first van purchase as well. Torontoist went along to document it all. Rock Plaza Central plays Lee's Palace tonight at 10 PM. Tickets are $12 at the door. Videos after the jump.......

Allegedly from Toronto, Rock Plaza Central took New York City by storm this weekend -- opening for Oxford Collapse at The Glasslands in Brooklyn on Saturday, and for Montreal's Malajube and Atlanta's Snowden at the Mercury Lounge in Manhattan on Sunday. An unbelievably energized ensemble of strings, brass, and percussion, Rock Plaza Central just might be this year's most exciting musical breakthrough. The New York crowds seem to have corroborated this claim, as they wouldn't......

After five long years, indie rockers The Apples in Stereo are back with the release of their latest disc New Magnetic Wonder (Simian Records) on February 7. We've only had a chance to listen to a few songs so far, and they're very catchy 60's pop goodness. Furthermore, lead singer Robert Schneider created a whole new music scale, called the "Non-Pythagorean Scale," which is extensively explained as a bonus on the new disc. Luckily for......

It seems pretty appropriate that we just had Groundhog Day, given that we're feeling a little bit like Bill Murray looking at the concert listings this week. Not only is there very little going on, but most of the bands who are playing seem to be here every week (Apostle of Hustle, The Tragically Hip, Hostage Life, Friendly Rich). Thus, we have nothing left to say about them! So if you've already seen these......

"Just take those old records off the shelf, I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself, today's music ain't got..." Oh. Ahem...sorry, just reliving the old days of Fisher-Price rollerskating around the house to Bob Seger (and Joan Jett, if anyone's counting). Did you know that good ol' Bob is in town this week at the ACC? Did anyone know he was still alive and kicking? There are still tickets available for Tuesday, so......
