No Country For Old Men cleans up at the Oscars. The Coen Brothers finally got some big-time recognition with nods for best picture, best directing, best adapted screenplay, and best husband of Frances McDormand. In other news, a bunch of Canadians got nominated for stuff and didn't win any of it. (There! We could totally write entertainment news for any major Canadian newspaper now!) Visa IPO expected to be worth nineteen billion smackers. MasterCard responded......

TTC subways twice as costly to build as Madrid's. And they got tapas while they were building it. Rogers increases their fake "system access" fee. Torontoist has learned that this is only the first in a proposed system of additional fees, including an "energy cost of making your phone ring louder" fee, a "remembering that you're paying for additional services" fee, and the obviously necessary "keeping track of all the fees you owe us"......

Begrudging wireless carriers were able to hold it off for two years but as of today, wireless number portability (WNP) will be available to their customers in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Québec. Interest in releasing phone numbers was voiced by the government in February 2005 and although there was agreement from phone service providers to do so, little planning for implementation came from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA). The following December, the Canadian......

On any given weekday, around 5 p.m., you can expect to find a bit of a mob gathered around the corner of Queen and John. That’s when MuchMusic's Much on Demand airs live and excitable teens like to gather to catch a glimpse of a celebrity—any celebrity. And since it's March Break this week, you can expect double the crowds as guests like Christian rock band Relient K and High School Musical's Jordan Pruitt drop......

Opposition parties are crying foul over Harper's use of military jets. After accusing the Liberals of overusing the jets for personal business during their time in government, Harper used one to fly his son to Toronto for a Leafs game. Pot, meet kettle. A lethal bacterial strain common in hospitals has hit Mississauga. According to the article, C. difficile is spread through fecal matter. We don't even want to know what's going on in our......

V-Fest has come and gone, and although it definitely had some issues, it was a great experience overall. The Flaming Lips clearly stole the show, even though they were forced to shut everything down after four songs on Day One, due to an 11pm curfew. Their show is like going to Disney Land, but for adults. Multiplied by 10. It warmed the cochels of my heart. Other notable performances included The Raconteurs, Wolfmother, Phoenix......

Due to non-existent internet access over the past few days (thanks, Bell!), there is an abridged version of the music listings this week. However, a big week it is, with V-Fest coming to town. The Flaming Lips! The Raconteurs! Wolfmother afros! And keep your eyes on the sky...you never know, you might see Richard Branson descending to earth perched on a flock of birds or something. As always, if you know of a good......

Just about one year after the last major Toronto (areaish) concert, Richard Branson announced that the Toronto Islands will host the Virgin Festival over a weekend in early September. This is the first time the Virgin Festival crosses the pond outside the UK. Note that this is the first time that Centre Island will be closed to the public. Just like Live8, this concert is being put on to raise awareness... for "Make Rogers History."......

Sir Richard Branson becomes an ally in the fight for 'number portability.' The head Virgin has taken out a full page ad in today's Globe, beseeching 'Canada's 15 million mobile customers' and interested Canadians to speak up in support of 'number portability.' Number portability is industry speak for keeping your number when you switch carriers. Obviously, Sir Rich has a vested interest in the right to keep and switch, as it would inspire more people......
