MUSIC: Ah, Girl Talk. Who doesn't enjoy spending a slumber party with friends and spinning the wheel to end up doing kooky dares and talking about sexy crushes? Oh yeah, and there's this guy by the same name who does somewhat controversial mixes of Sinéad O'Connor with T.I. and Lil Wayne, getting audiences so sweaty they're literally sliding off each other an their attempts to do something that ends up only barely resembling dancing. Mash-up maniac Girl Talk is celebrating his newest release, Feed the Animals, by offering the album for download for whatever price you'd like to pay (this includes a $0 option, which is exactly how much money he pays the artists he's sampling). If this show is anything like his last gig at the Phoenix, you do not want to miss it (our clothing was quite literally dripping). Koolhaus (132 Queen's Quay East), 8 p.m., $20.

It’s wild outside, huh? So wild that it allows us to segue into talking about must be astonishingly terrible.

We don’t think we’ve ever lead with the same film two weeks in a row, but there’s a first time for everything. Did you get a chance to see Blade Runner: The Final Cut this week? We did. It was amazing. We really can’t think of a film we’d rather lead with (and there’s some good stuff this week). If you didn’t get a chance to see it, consider yourself massively lucky, because it’s still on at the Regent. Basically, you have to see it. It’s a cinema experience that you’ll regret missing for the rest of your life, probably.

Oh man! What a pickle. This week we have the release of one of our favourite films in ages, This is England, and one of our favourite films of all time, Blade Runner, in its super-special, Ridley Scott-approved final cut.

Inside Out is gearing up for its seventeenth annual celebration of Gay and Lesbian video and film, and they need your help to ensure another successful year.

Let’s start with something everyone likes: free films! Yes, the U of T’s Cinema Studies Student Union has revealed the new Free Friday Films line-up, starting tonight with Atom Egoyan’s Exotica. Next week is Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Feb. 23 features a Cult Night triple-bill, with Monster Squad, The Brood, and The Human Tornado all showing. Screenings are at Innis College Town Hall, 2 Sussex Ave.

Let it never be said that Torontoist’s fearless Film Friday column doesn’t use its peerless powers of precision to pick out the perfect film for your viewing pleasure! Yes, the other rags might have ignored it (probably no press screening) but this week’s pick above all others has to be Let’s Go To Prison, starring Toronto born Will Arnett (of Arrested Development) and directed by Mr. Show genius Bob Odenkirk, how could it possibly be anything other than completely excellent?

Happy 10th Birthday Reel Asian Film Festival. Yep next year you enter your preteens and we all know it's downhill from there until you hit 18 or so.

There are several films out this week. As there are every week. But for some reason Torontoist just isn’t that interested in them this time. Oh, sure, we could riff on the new Will Ferrell vehicle, Stranger than Fiction, but we are… Disinterested, as we said. Thankfully the professionals aren’t so undisciplined, with Eye Weekly’s Jason Anderson praising the script as “clever and idiosyncratic”, and Barrett Hooper from Now calling it “genuinely funny and surprisingly touching.”

The Bloor Cinema is heavy with festivals so shortly after the celebration of its 100th birthday, with The One-Minute Film and Video Festival starting tonight,as blogged below, and last night’s opening night gala of the Reel Asian Film Festival, The Motel.
