Festival fever is sweeping the city—after all, it’s that time of year. But, perhaps incredibly, there are people for whom Brad Pitt sightings and red carpet galas just aren’t worth the Ben Mulroney-sized hype. What, for example, is the ardent audiophile to do in this landscape of visual media tyranny?

As Torontoist reported yesterday, the Hummingbird Centre is changing its name to the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, marking the second change in corporate naming rights during the venue's half-century existence. Support of the site has ranged from a philanthropic brewer (O'Keefe Brewing head E.P. Taylor) to a multinational media company.

Who cares about seeing live performances from Avril Lavigne, Billy Talent, The Used and more! When you can instead sit in front of your computer and read about us recounting said live performances in our trademark snarky manner?

Last night's star-studded 17th Annual Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Awards brought prestigious wins for local play 'Da Kink In My Hair and playwright trey anthony. The play started as a one-woman Fringe Festival production and enjoyed multiple sold-out runs in Toronto until expanded by the Mirvishes at the Princess of Wales Theatre last year.

There are literally dozens of blogs covering the Festival this year, and while most of them are personal sites listing what movies they could or couldn't get into, a few stand out. Torontoist will do his best to roundup the blogosphere's TIFF coverage.

Torontoist would like to self-select himself to be the Joan Rivers of the Untitled Art Awards. TUAA is arguably the city's best known visual arts award and judging from the nominees list a good chunk of the city's visual arts elite should be showing up. Last year's show had the Mayor eating an improvised meal to avant-garde jazz, acceptance speeches and beer, it was held at a brewery.

The Toronto Film Festival is fully over and has been for nearly a week, with staff having made their way back from their temporary offices in hotels and malls, volunteers returned to their usual jobs or schools, and stars returning to… their lives of going to parties and hanging out with other stars (not a big change there, then). Now all the films are over and the red carpet has been rolled away, most of us are quite happy to forget about the festival for another year, and indeed, many of us got kind of tired of it by the end. So Torontoist is here to take a look at some reasons why we should still be in love with the Toronto Film Festival.

So you're not TIFFing towards ecstasy, making like conspicuously consuming celebs on Bloor's Mink Mile who spend small fortunes in order to drown out the loneliness of the red carpet (boo hoo). The weekend's stuffed with fashiony goodness that's kinder to the civilian pocketbook, and much more satisfying.
