Friday, Dec. 8 will mark the debut of LISTEN!, a listening group and library started to bridge the apparent gap between Toronto's music scene and the University of Toronto students in its midst. "We started the club up because we feel that Toronto's music culture is very rich but that a lot of U of T kids aren't really aware of everything that's available to them right in their own backyard," says Valentine Gurfinkel,......

There seems to be something for everyone this week, but let's just call it the 'week of The Hip' and be done with it, since they've taken up residence at The Phoenix for four sold out shows. We're curious to know if anyone actually paid $60 + TM charges per ticket to attend all of them? 'Fess up! If that's not your thing, you can always get spewed on by Gwar tonight at the......

It's a busy music week, this one. There's everything from samba to classical music, so all of you anti-hipsters should be pleased. Most importantly, Torontoist's 'Back to School' Party is this Thursday, and we better see y'all there -- especially you anonymous commenters. You know who you are. As always, if there's a show happening that we haven't listed, let us know in the comments. Recently Announced Oct. 4 - The Long Winters @......

Who Is DJ Cyber-Rap? Depending what circles you run with, this question may have been nagging you for quite some time. If you’re a member of Stillepost, the message board that plays hosts to almost all of Toronto’s scenesters, you’ve known about DJ Cyber-Rap since 2005. That’s when the 59 year-old widower (born Robert “Ronald” Marie MacDougall) first started posting in the Toronto forum of Stillepost from internet cafes, using painfully effortful internet jargon in......

Ryan McLaren has been a booker for the long-running Wavelength music series, and a fixture of the Toronto indie rock scene. Lately a lot of his time has been spent getting a new project off the ground. ALL CAPS! is a new series of all-ages concerts, because why should Toronto's great live indie music only be accessible to those 19 and up. Torontoist chatted with McLaren about why the kids are more than all right......

All of this campaigning must be getting to my head. I haven't even been elected and I'm already sending out decrees. This one shall be my first. Let it be known that the City Idol after party shall be at the Tranzac. Why the Tranzac when there are perfectly good bars on Queen St. and probably four within spitting distance of the Kathedral (or the Kathedral itself)? Because none of those bars will have Ninja......

Last month Torontoist posted about Brian Joseph Davis' Yesterduh project. Tonight, Davis wraps up the project with a CD release party. He's layered 60 individual recordings (Boy Reporter is one of them) of the Lennon-McCartney classic "Yesterday", gathered over a month, into one giant polyphonic Beatles extravaganza. Samples are available here. Tonight's event will also feature a performance by Vigilante Justice which features members of Pyramid Culture and Ninja High School who'll be performing early......

Toronto synth-punk band Pony Da Look starts up this Thursday Music Roundup. PDL, which up until recently had been on a break, are back in force. They're doing two shows, one tonight with Kiss Me Deadly and Pyramid Culture at Sneaky Dee's ($8 bucks) and tommorow as part of Lederhosen Lucil's EP and Zine launch (pictured here). Also tommorow is Blues/Folk legend Odetta which everyone from Zoilus to Now seems to be into. 32......
