Oscar Peterson passes at 82. The great jazz musician was a Canadian hero and he did many amazing things, including spending the twilight of his career essentially playing jazz piano one-handed and doing it better than most people who had use of both their hands. Pope Benedict XVI asserts that Catholicism is the only true church. The document he approved states that other Christian churches are "defective" and not true churches. Pope Benedict also plans to bring back the Spanish Inquisition and witch burnings later this year. Canadian Olympic Committee wants Toronto to try yet again to get the Olympics. Because if lackluster support for bringing the Olympics here twice wasn't enough the first two times, surely the third time......

Canada's second-last WWI veteran dies at 106. Percy Dwight Wilson (pictured) lied about his age to enlist in the army at the age of fifteen. Is that not amazing? Torontoist thinks that's amazing! Former Toronto police chief and current OPP commissioner Julian Fantino is being sued for allegedly using a Police Services board case to maliciously advance his own career. The suit accuses Fantino of multiple skullduggeries, including wiretapping the chair of the Police Services Board. Now, I know what you're thinking - "but Julian Fantino was such a nice police chief.
