For those of you who didn’t attend on Wednesday night, the news coming out of the Pontiac Quarterly is that founder Damian Rogers is leaving the poetry/prose/arts/music night. Liz Clayton is taking over organizing and hosting duties, with her first edition slated for October.
This week’s listings come at you one day late but better than ever. Ok, maybe not better than ever. More like as adequate as before.
Tonight Pontiac Quarterly unleashes its second issue this year at The Drake Hotel (8pm). For those of you unfamiliar, PQ is a performance magazine where writers read their fiction, feature stories - even advice columns - on stage in front of a live audience. Coming around only four times a year (it's right there in the title!), The Torontoist looks forward to it like our mom looks forward to gardening season.
Eye contributor Liisa Ladouceur helps run the Royal Sarcophagus Society a neo-gothic collective that makes and sells crafts, organizes readings and more. The group's latest event is Wanderlust,an evening of raunchy road-trip tales, provocative poetry and more tonight at the Gladstone art bar.
Pontiac Quarterly, "Toronto's preeminent live-action literary and arts journal," drops another issue tonight. And once again, you don't have to bother with that pesky reading thing, or deal with any circulation problems out of Kansas City. All you need do is bring your ears to the Drake to hear, see and experience this, their virginity-themed issue. Past issues have also included soundtracks by Kieran Grant and illustrations by Tyler Clarke Burke. Plus you don't have to contend with the whole 'do-i-recycle-this-pretty-magazine-that-i've-already-read-or-do-i-keep-it-like-the-packrat-that-i-am' thing. $10, 8 pm.
