During months of campaigning in the area during my recent federal political adventure -- a disappointing personal outcome, though much satisfaction from the larger victory -- I found virtually no support for the project that would narrow sidewalks, congest traffic, reduce street parking and delivery opportunities, complicate left turns and increase pedestrian wait times, while improving streetcar travel times by barely a minute or two.

Election signs are a bit like Christmas lights, after the big day they quickly lose what little charm they had to begin with. Campaign signs are even worse because with Christmas lights arguably no body loses, but having a Tony Ianno, Marilyn Churley or Peter Kent sign on your lawn can serve as a constant reminder of electoral defeat and that you might've had too many drinks watching the results come in on CBC.

, Mr Kent, if nothing else, is getting the conservative adgenda out there. By that, he must mean this, his latest press release. Here's the gist, in case you don't want to read his opening sentence:

Spotted on the street outside The Senator Diner on Victoria Friday night: Publicist Gino Empry's car. Gino may "belong to the stars," but he still gets parking tickets like the rest of us apparently, since there was a sheet of the dreaded yellow paper under his windshield wiper. More distressing than the ticket, however, were the four, count 'em four, bobble-heads on the dashboard. How, you may ask, did Torontoist know that it was G. Empry's car parked there? Do we memorize the makes and models that all Torontonian happiness gurus drive? No, the license plate was a dead giveaway: G. Empry.
