Hopefully, you've already polished your tiara and ordered your orchid. You've probably spent every night this week at the sewing machine, cannibalizing several discarded pink dresses to create your own cotton candy monstrosity. Or maybe you've been spending all your time coaxing that "ugly" girl from your homeroom out of her glasses and ponytail as part of a troublingly chauvinistic bet. That's right, the fifth annual Fake Prom takes place this Saturday night at......

Beginning Friday and running until July 1st, the TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival is smoothly bringing over 60 swingin' musicians to play in venues all across town in what apparently is Canada's best jazz festival. Take that, Montreal! So, catch up on some free music downtown at Nathan Phillips Square, or go chill at joints like The Rex and Lolita's Lust, open with an extended liquor license until 4 a.m. (which Torontoist thinks......

The members of Henri Faberge and the Adorables have affectionately called their much touted lakeside CD release party "Afternoon Delights on a Hot Summer Night." Sadly they're only half-right with the last weekend of the summer being cooler than some of the scorching hot days we had back in July and August. Fortunately for us they got the first half right. With Woodhands, Barmitzvah Brothers, Gentleman Reg and the Bicycles joining forces with Henri Faberge......

Everyone recovered from V-Fest yet? No? What's wrong with you? Better take your vitamins and Red Bull then, because there's a lot going on this week. Notably, Ms. Emily Haines will be playing four (that's right, 4!) shows in a span of three days (incl. V-Fest), so if you think you're tired... If this isn't enough music for one week and you know of other shows, as always, we want to hear about it......

Another death on the Gardiner. A motorcyclist died in an accident around 7:30 pm. Earlier reports blamed racing but a police detective said the biker was most likely trying to perform a wheelie when his bike flipped over and killed the rider. Palais Royale will be getting its parking lot. This fall, the city will be paving over a median on Lakeshore Boulevard to provide parking space for the renovated club. The city is breathing......

For all time we spend slagging councillor Howard Moscoe even on the worst of days he doesn't come close to the Mouth of Etobicoke, Rob Ford. Many of us have been loud and boorish at a sporting event but only Rob would hand out his City Hall business card to the couple whose evening he ruined. Many councillors don't like the poor but only Rob goes out of his way to attack community grants of......

Toronto had eight shootings over the weekend. Eight. Two of them were fatal. The Star focuses in on the night-time shooting outside a 7-11 at College and Spadina. The Sun gives a rundown of the gun violence in the GTA this weekend. A tree grows on Adelaide. The City's tree planters are falling apart. The urban forestry department said they're getting some new ones but they probably won't be enough. Little Portugal lives to cheer......

One of the cabbies stabbed yesterday sadly did not recover from his wounds and died in hospital yesterday. The fact that his killer was caught on tape and his picture is now everywhere is only small consolation. The Boulevard Club has withdrawn its application to take over a chunk of Parkdale beach. Sadly the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club and the Palais Royale parking lot are still in the works and threatening west side beaches.......

For lovers of new music and concerts, Friday night often means making tough decisions. Do you check out the local up and comers, or do you see the established favourites? Or, do you maybe pay a visit to the band just passing through? This particular Friday is no exception, with the Tragically Hip and Joel Plaskett rockin' the Air Canada Centre and Badly Drawn Boy stopping in at the Palais Royale. But really, the Hip......
