In case you were wondering, it's probably not a great idea to be hanging out in the entertainment district at 3:15 a.m. Especially if you're in a luxury SUV. And especially especially if you've got a ponytail.

The Spadina Expressway was probably the most high-profile megaproject in Toronto that was never built, but it's also just one of many. For his OCAD thesis project, David Kopulos has detailed a host of construction projects that were planned for Toronto, but that never materialized—both the reviled (such as the Expressway) and the intriguing—on his website, Toronto Pending. Each entry explains what the proposed structure would have been and why it wasn't built, alongside artist's renderings, photos and a map of the would-be site that cheekily states, "You aren't here." Some of the projects include:
TO. Hogtown. The Queen City of Canada. The Centre of the Universe. Centennial City. All names applied to Toronto over the years.
Yesterday marked the official release of Google Earth 4 (the public beta has been available since the summer), a free product with a cleaner interface and a beefed-up focus on 3-D architectural imagery.
Torontoist was at the Bubble Battle at Old City Hall this afternoon... But in true Canadian Style, what was termed a was more of a peaceful sudsy sit-in.
Newmindspace specializes in throwing irreverent, collective urban events. What qualifies as irreverent in a city as quirky as Toronto? How about a giant easter egg hunt, giant game of urban capture the flag, giant subway (and streetcar) parties, and giant pillow fights? No matter what they're doing, the focus is on getting people - lots of people - together to do something cool, unusual, and fun.
Mayor David Miller will be giving a Remembrance Day address at a service at Old City Hall this morning at 10:30. The service will also include a Colour Party Parade and music by the 7th Toronto Regiment Band, RCA and the Elmer Iseler Singers.
Of course, if City Hall ceremonies aren't your cup of tea, you could also participate in the 11:00am ceremony at the Zoo, 'where vets and their guests get in free!' Kind of tacky, but not nearly as tacky as that Bell commercial that we've seen at the movie theatre. You know, the really cloying one where the grandson travels Europe so he can call grandpa from Dieppe. Thanks Bell. Your borderline offensive ad campaign was enough to deter us from signing up for bundle.
