In case you were wondering, it's probably not a great idea to be hanging out in the entertainment district at 3:15 a.m. Especially if you're in a luxury SUV. And especially especially if you've got a ponytail. In February of 2006, Toronto police officers arrested Irshad Ahmed and Omar Betty for failure to stop, failure to comply, and obstructing police. Their trial is currently being conducted at Old City Hall, and some interesting evidence......

The Spadina Expressway was probably the most high-profile megaproject in Toronto that was never built, but it's also just one of many. For his OCAD thesis project, David Kopulos has detailed a host of construction projects that were planned for Toronto, but that never materialized—both the reviled (such as the Expressway) and the intriguing—on his website, Toronto Pending. Each entry explains what the proposed structure would have been and why it wasn't built, alongside......

TO. Hogtown. The Queen City of Canada. The Centre of the Universe. Centennial City. All names applied to Toronto over the years. Centennial city? That was the nickname tossed around when Toronto celebrated its 100th birthday in 1934. To commemorate the event, a Centennial Committee was put together by city council, whose lasting work was Jesse Edgar Middleton’s book Toronto’s 100 Years. The book includes a variety of sketches of the city’s first century, as......

Yesterday marked the official release of Google Earth 4 (the public beta has been available since the summer), a free product with a cleaner interface and a beefed-up focus on 3-D architectural imagery. Part of the appeal Google Earth holds is "flying" through three-dimensional terrain as if in a 90s-era flight simulator, and Google wants to map bridges, skyscrapers, and landmarks as well. Television news networks have relied on the paid, enhanced version Google......

Torontoist was at the Bubble Battle at Old City Hall this afternoon... But in true Canadian Style, what was termed a battle was more of a peaceful sudsy sit-in. For more pictures of the event check out all the Flickr and Robonto action. For a glimpse of the future of bubbles, check out Zubbles. [photo:Bubble Sit-In TO - Robonto]......

Newmindspace specializes in throwing irreverent, collective urban events. What qualifies as irreverent in a city as quirky as Toronto? How about a giant easter egg hunt, giant game of urban capture the flag, giant subway (and streetcar) parties, and giant pillow fights? No matter what they're doing, the focus is on getting people - lots of people - together to do something cool, unusual, and fun. Their next project, accordingly, is all about bubbles.......

Mayor David Miller will be giving a Remembrance Day address at a service at Old City Hall this morning at 10:30. The service will also include a Colour Party Parade and music by the 7th Toronto Regiment Band, RCA and the Elmer Iseler Singers. Ceremonies are scheduled to take place all over the city.......

Torontoist likes the lovely poppy, and appreciates when people navigate those treacherous pins to put them on their lapels. City Hall marks the day with a 10:30am ceremony at the Old City Hall Cenotaph (Queen and Bay). Of course, if City Hall ceremonies aren't your cup of tea, you could also participate in the 11:00am ceremony at the Zoo, 'where vets and their guests get in free!' Kind of tacky, but not nearly as tacky......
