The younger members of the "Toronto 18" were clueless dupes, according to the RCMP informant on the case. Best line from the story: "At one point, he said, the leaders hid in the bushes and made wolf and bear noises." Thank God we caught them early or they would have been making animal noises outside of Parliament!

All three parties in the Ontario legislature are backing a bill that will ban smoking in cars carrying anyone under the age of 16. You know, when Torontoist was young, we'd roll around seatbeltless in the back of flimsy subcompacts doing 150 on the highway while our parents drank beer and spewed out lungfuls of carcinogens, and we turned out okay.

David Miller's plan to ban recreational shooting ranges in the city of Toronto is arousing ire from shooting enthusiasts, who argue that banning air guns and single-shot target rifles isn't going to decrease gun violence. A representative from a suburban range said their members come from all walks of life, including homemakers, students, professionals, and those friendly Crip boys who always bring their own guns.

180,000 people have applied to buy tickets for the eight games that the NFL's Buffalo Bills will be playing at the Rogers Centre between now and 2012. The tickets will range as high as $295 (pre-scalper), which is still better than having to go to Buffalo. Because it's such a long drive, we mean. Geez, stop being so sensitive, Buffalo.

In a grudging acknowledgement that Canadians are still entitled to some measure of freedom of speech, the Ontario Human Rights Commission dismissed a complaint against Maclean's magazine for articles critical of Islamic fundamentalism, saying the Commission had no jurisdiction over print. However, the Commission—whose members are not required to have training in law, journalism, or, um, anything, really—did say that the articles caused "serious harm" to society with their "destructive, xenophobic opinions." That's nice. The Human Rights Commission is nice. Muslims are nice. It's very nice to live in Ontario.
