Dundas Square gets a lot of flak for being a cold and soulless expanse of commercial neon and grey granite, and in a new music video for local singer-songwriter-producer Colin Munroe, it still is! But in this case, it's appropriate for his fantastic cover of Kanye West's mediocre "Flashing Lights" track.

">believe that, as dance music artists, "there's much better places for us to be," (this is said right at the 4:16 mark, of all times) Toronto's other homegrown house producers have taken the entire electro world by storm in the last few months. One needs only to point one's browser to the website Beatport, which has quickly become the DJ world's number one website for downloading high-bitrate dance music, and look on the "Top Downloads" panel on the lower right. In that period of time, there has been at least one track by a Toronto-based artist on the Top 10, and in the last five months, at least one Ontarian (if you include Windsor-raised Richie Hawtin, a.k.a. Plastikman.) Here is a brief look at three Toronto artists who have been conquering dancefloors around the world with their popular tracks on Beatport:

CityPulse. The New Music. Baby Blue Movies. City Lights. Fashion Television. Speaker's Corner. These programs are among the innovative shows that have aired on CityTV since it officially launched way up the dial 35 years ago this evening.

It's almost time to say goodbye to North By Northeast for yet another year. Two longs nights have past, leaving tonight as the last chance to get out an enjoy some of the best new music from around the world. Seeing as it is Saturday, expect a lot of the shows to be really busy so going earlier is always better than later. All the cool kids are doing it!

After five long years, indie rockers The Apples in Stereo are back with the release of their latest disc New Magnetic Wonder (Simian Records) on February 7. We've only had a chance to listen to a few songs so far, and they're very catchy 60's pop goodness. Furthermore, lead singer Robert Schneider created a whole new music scale, called the "Non-Pythagorean Scale," which is extensively explained as a bonus on the new disc. Luckily for us, we'll get a chance to hear it all live when the band hits Lee's Palace on February 20, with openers Casper and The Cookies and Rock Plaza Central.

Starting next Tuesday and running for five nights, The Hidden Cameras will be putting on a special series of shows in conjunction with the Toronto Dance Theatre at Harbourfront, entitled "In The Boneyard". Head Camera Joel Gibb gave Pitchfork a sneak preview of what to expect from the performances, which will begin with the Cameras providing musical accompaniment for the dancers but trading places as the show progresses.

This, the first installment of what will (hopefully) be a weekly segment for Torontoist, will explore the phenomenon of podcasting. Torontoist has one of those Ipods to cast, but no money to buy new music, and is too lazy and scared for downloading.

Torontoist doesn't have a lot of time now that summer is over. Not a lot of time to do up an indepth Le Mercredi Mixtape, that is, but don't fear, there is some good new music here.

There is just so much good music to be found online and much of it as free and legal downloads. That's what Torontoist wants to share with you in these Le Mercredi Mixtapes and that's what *sixeyes share as well. So many artists, bands, and indie music labels offer mp3s that you could live in front of your monitor searching for new music. And Torontoist does.... here's what we've been living on lately.

This Le Mercredi Mixtape starts off with promising New Yorkers and ends with promising Brits and in between is a warm salty ocean to dive into. But 'mixtape'? Mixtape seems like an anachronism already, who makes them anymore? And this isn't a 'tape' now is it? But, what the hell, I used to make mixtapes all the time and actually enjoyed giving new music to friends. This was the idea behind my mp3 blog, *Sixeyes, as well. So, friends... here is some music for you. A mixmp3download/streamthing. Yeah, I know, mixtape is better.

(Zunior) with a cross-Canada tour that stops at the El Mocambo upstairs on Friday night.

Forget about all the new music making its way to Toronto this summer -- old classics should be given the same coverage. That's why Torontoist and Mom went down to Massey Hall last night to catch Gordon Lightfoot's second concert of the week.

For a mid-afternoon, end-of-the-week kick in the pants, tune into CIUT's new music show Eclectic Sound Basement. The show runs courtesy of Torontoist comrade Guy Stevos, of Sans Blog fame, and has been known to rawk. Content includes "an unpredictable mix of eclectic music not heard anywhere else" and an interview with loveable Overtones columnist Carl Wilson. The show airs every Friday at 12 P.M. Act like you know.

A hot topic around certain media water coolers this week is definitely George. And for once it’s not Mr. Bush we’re scrutinizing, it’s Mr. Stroumboulopoulos and his new show, The Hour.

Magneta Lane signed to Paper Bag Records, who host the awaited CD release party tonight at Cinecycle for their Constant Lover EP (available in stores since early October). The Two Koreas and Kids On TV are opening with DJ Pammm filling the gaps. It's $7 at the door. Magneta Lane are expected to go on around 12, doors open at 9.
