Out of respect for the funeral of Richard Bradshaw, the Toronto International Film Festival Group chose not to hold their traditional big final press conference in Nathan Phillips Square yesterday, and so with slightly less fanfare than usual we received a massive lump of press releases from the Festival announcing that they’ve announced absolutely everything about the festival there is to announce, pretty much.

The Toronto International Film Festival have announced 73 films today, which is, er, a lot. Too many for us to even pretend to give them even coverage, so as usual we’re just going to pick and choose from today’s announcements, which are made of films from international filmmakers, and tell you about the ones that interest us personally.

Interesting and depressing news today in the Toronto Star, with the revelation that there are no plans to release the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theatres in Canada. Why is that, hmm? The article states (quite correctly) that it’s one of the most popular shows on The Detour on Teletoon (where you can watch it at 10:15 p.m. weeknights) so why they’re not giving it at least a limited release here confounds us.

Going to see all three films in Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher Trilogy, one after another in one night, is one of this Torontoist’s most treasured cinema memories, and although we did it at 2005’s Toronto International Film Festival, anyone who missed that chance can now do it at the Brunswick Theatre (296 Brunswick Avenue) tonight and tomorrow night starting 7 p.m. It’s $10 for one film or $15 for the lot, so obviously you should see all three.

There are literally dozens of blogs covering the Festival this year, and while most of them are personal sites listing what movies they could or couldn't get into, a few stand out. Torontoist will do his best to roundup the blogosphere's TIFF coverage.

Yes, it's that time of year again - the Toronto International Film Festival Group have begun revealing the films that will be showing at their 31st Annual Film Festival (this year running from September 7th-16th). If we remember, the opening gala will be The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (we don't blame you, they announced it aaages ago) but they've now revealed their "Best of the International Film Circuit" selection (flicks that have already played at other festivals) and it's a doozy. Here at Torotontoist Towers our picks have to be Palme d'Or winner The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Ken Loach's portrayal of Ireland's bid for independence in the 1920s, and Takashi Miike's gay prison love drama/murder mystery Big Bang Love, Juvenile A.
