A group of airport taxi drivers were ejected from the Toronto council chambers yesterday after a dispute regarding the council's plan to ban taxis that are not registered in Toronto from picking up fares downtown.
We rarely do an Extra, Extra, but tonight's an exception for two reasons: first, two major crime events -- a bus hijacking and a shooting -- happened in downtown Toronto over the past twenty-four hours that merit mentioning; and second, in each story the facts are getting lost along the way and, as usual, the media is muddling the details of what actually (seems to have) happened. It's our goal in this recap to try to synthesize and clarify all the information coming in, as well as point out some holes in the coverage that's out there so far. If you spot a mistake that we make, please let us know in the comments with a link to whatever source you're getting your info from, and we'll correct ourselves.

The police admit that they've been protecting witnesses and sources to the Jane Creba shooting. They've put up a $50,000 reward and got 20 investigators working on it. Here's hoping they close the case soon.
Toronto Police have released a video showing a man who they are seeking out as a possible witness to the Boxing day shooting of Jane Creba.
On Yonge Street just north of Elm Street, in front of the store in which 15-year-old Jane Creba killed by an errant bullet, a group of about 200 gathered to mourn the deaths of all those killed by guns in 2005. There was a moment of silence before each candle was dedicated to a shooting victim; one candle for any one of the 52 victims. Organizer Himy Syed placed his candle down for Jane Creba.
By now, most everyone in the city knows of the single most unfortunate event in Toronto this year: On Boxing Day, while shopping, 15-year-old Jane Creba was killed by errant gunfire. Six other innocent bystanders were also wounded.
