She was crowned with her towering spire on April 2, 1975, rising nearly six hundred metres above the Toronto waterfront. A year and a half later, on October 1, 1976, her doors were opened to the public for the very first time, the jewel of the skyline and a beacon to the world—and to anyone with misplaced bearings in the downtown core.
It’s hard to blame the band for trying. The Shuffle Demons wanted to wrangle one thousand saxophone players to perform, live, at Nathan Phillips Square on Canada Day—and they were this close to fulfilling their musical prophesy. Too bad they were short a couple (hundred) players.
Fresh from this year's successful stab at World's Largest Thriller Dance, Toronto is looking to weasel its way into the Guinness Book yet again. This time, with a big-ass Christmas stocking.
