It's NXNE Eve! One last chance to get a decent sleep before you find yourself staggering home at 4 a.m. for three nights in a row. Before we get to our picks, there are a couple of special Friday happenings that we feel the need to tell you about. First off is the East MEATS West BBQ happening at Global Village Backpackers (460 King St. W.) from 1–7 p.m. Presented by Kelp Records, Saved By Vinyl and Exclaim!, it features free beer, free BBQ and eleven bands, including The Parkas, Ox and Jim Bryson, playing for free! It will get busy, so show up early.

...and not the pre-Rod Stewart 60's rock band! Though they were much better before Stewart infused his trademark pub-rocking, scratchy-throat voice. Anyway, not the Faces at all. This is called "Faces of the Global Village" exhibit, and it's at BCE Place starting yesterday. Over 100 images from documentary photographer Irving Posluns will be on display throughout the Allen Lambert Galleria (you know, that main hallway thing there), depicting the humanity and compassion needed for our current 'global village' situation. The photo to the left, for instance, is a school girl from the West Indies carrying the book "We are Neighbours" - the theme of the exhibit. This is a free Oxfam-sponsored event, running until August 26. And, in case you like ice cream, BCE Place give a free cone to anyone brave enough to spend $5 in their food court.

Using ‘stock’ to describe a festival/event is lamos like John Stamos. Woofstock was at least a somewhat funny play on words, but calling a little street festival complete with a children’s village and craft centre Bloorstock is as poorly thought out as this post. Stocks used to be cool, but now they’re just boring.
