As Toronto taxpayers now own part of General Motors, we feel it appropriate to offer up a slice of their new investment's history.

Not quite the style of advertising emerging from General Motors this holiday season, is it?

People are scamming the city's parking machines to the tune of $1 million per year. Apparently you can use an expired pre-paid credit card to park for free because the machines don't check to see if the cards have credit left on them. The Toronto Parking Authority has known about this since 1998, but hasn't done anything because what the hell—it's only money.

It rained a lot yesterday, and it will most likely rain more today. Then it will probably rain some more on Wednesday, and Thursday, and Friday. If you're like Torontoist and don't have air conditioning, you are all for more rain. Keep raining, rain! (But no more funnel clouds, please. That kinda freaks us out.)

Imagine what the Caddy would think of this month's snowfall. The car wouldn't bother waiting for a driver to take in the greyhounds before the next storm strikes.

Barack Obama thumps Hillary Clinton in last night's primaries. Obama for the first time won the majority of Latino voters, the majority of women voters, and the majority of senior citizen voters, while broadening his support in the demographics he was already winning. On the bright side for Hillary, she did manage to win the vote of nearly 87 percent of the voters who thought she was more qualified to be President than Obama. On the Republican side, John McCain won all his primaries, then told us that Barack Obama is a young whippersnapper selling false hope, and that grownups know that despair is the only rational response to the world.

Last night's Ontario leaders' debate was replete with the kind of wit, sophistication, and rhetorical flourish we've come to expect from our candidates. Tory to McGuinty: You're a big fat liar. McGuinty: Am not. Hampton: Are too. Big fat liar. McGuinty: You guys are the liars. Green Party Leader Frank DeJong wasn't invited to the big kids party, even though he got a haircut and everything.

City budget passes: 7.9 billion smackers for the year. Noteworthy: city councillors decided that keeping their free golf passes was extremely important. I don't think most of Rob Ford's proposed budget cuts are anything but hamfisted, but come on, City Council—pay for your own goddamned golf game, willya?

With gas prices at hellishly high levels and lobbyists calling for government intervention in Ontario to lower prices, it seems that there's no better time for Who Killed the Electric Car?, an excellent documentary about the slow death of the EV1, General Motors' electric car.
