The Toronto International Film Festival Group announced their top ten Canadian features for 2007 last night, along with (for the first time) their top ten list of Canadian short films. The top ten Canadian features were: L’âge Des Ténèbres (Denys Arcand), Amal (Richie Mehta), Continental, Un Film Sans Fusil (Stéphane Lafleur), Eastern Promises (David Cronenberg), Fugitive Pieces (Jeremy Podeswa) , My Winnipeg (Guy Maddin), A Promise To The Dead: The Exile Journey Of Ariel...

won’t-be-down-with-that flick, being shown tonight as part of Cinematheque Ontario’s Canada’s Top Ten programme (8:45pm, Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas West). The showing is preceded at 6:30pm by a fascinating panel – Pop Culture as History/History as Pop Culture, featuring Atom Egoyan (of Canada’s Top Ten film Where the Truth Lies) and Jean-Marc Vallee (of the aforementioned C.R.A.Z.Y), curated by Eye Weekly’s Jason Anderson. Sadly completely sold out, you can arrive early and hope for a rush ticket hope there is a ticket scalper outside, but the film is available, sans panel, at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor West) all week long.

This week in film we come to you first of all with news from the last week in film (uh…) Most of which we slightly embarrassingly forgot to mention, as it’s all good stuff.

When Air Canada sought out a spokesperson for their flight back into the black, they were looking for the musical equivalent to airline food. Or the musical equivalent to those uncomfortable pillows. Or those cheesy headphones. At any rate, they got Celine Dion. Last August, Air Canada inked a much publicized deal with Dion to act as the airline's Official Voice - that's voice, and voice only. Air Canada thought it more prudent not to purchase rights to Celine's face. So, in true diva fashion, the resourceful Dion strutted over to American Airlines for a promotion in their entertainment magazine. And really, you can't blame the girl for getting her earn on. She has made more than $77 million in ticket sales alone this year, and there are still plenty more major airlines out there who would love to use her attractive French Canadian grill to sell tickets.
