Next Monday, February 4, Keep Toronto Reading will launch its One Book program at the Toronto Reference Library. There will be performances by Soprano Mary Lou Fallis, who will sing popular songs from the 1850s, and Ross Manson who will perform two dramatic readings from Consolation. The event will be hosted by Tina Srebotnjak, who will interview Michael Redhill, author of Consolation. You can check out all One Book events here.

If you have ever driven up Yonge Street towards Richmond Hill, you probably couldn't help but notice the Vishnu Mandir Hindu temple and its landmark statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Alongside the temple is the unique Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization, which is presenting an ambitious Festival of India this weekend.

The CBC is reporting that the provincial government announced an ambitious new project today to revamp Kipling Station and turn it into a major transit hub for Etobicoke and Mississauga. The announcement came from Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield and Environment Minister Laurel Broten early this afternoon.

Try as you might, you can't look anywhere in our city without seeing some sort of ad for Microsoft's new operating system, Windows Vista. Alongside an unusually aggressive advertising campaign through more traditional methods, the company also went all out and paid for an elaborate ice house in Dundas Square. As the corporation should have expected, the backlash towards the over-the-top promotion began almost right away: there were the obvious jokes about "freezing"; impromptu dance parties organized inside the house; even some analysis of Microsoft's method of disposing the house --- letting it melt below the Gardiner.

We don't really need to explain this again do we. Newmindspace is having a subway party, this one starts at Finch Station, 11:10pm and is in honour of the system's 52nd birthday and Lori's birthday. We won't reveal how old she is, because Torontoist is a gentleman. The theme for tonight is the Dr. Seuss graduation classic Oh, The Places You'll Go.

Last month I wrote many nice things about VIVA. Last week, after missing the GO Bus from Markham to Toronto by seconds, I decided that it was a good opportunity to take an impromptu test ride on VIVA. I feel as though I may have been taken a little (not a lot) by the initial VIVA hype.
