For those of us who grew up watching Buffalo television, the city seems like a nearby suburb or one of those neighbourhoods that you heard about but never visited. The phrase “Three alarm fire in Tonawanda” was as familiar as Bad Boy’s “Noooo-body.” Yet, cross border shopping aside, it's surprising how few Torontonians have really been to Buffalo. We went last week and we recommend the day trip. Here's a short list of things to do in the City of Trees.

Our title this week of course refers to Catch and Release, a film which has been so endlessly trailered on TV (and we don’t even watch that much) that Torontoist feels like we could recite the whole bloody film right now. “The man I was going to marry is dead! I’m sitting wearing my wedding dress and moping – it’s a girl thing! Kevin Smith is fat and talentless, but friends with Ben Affleck so he can be in this! I’ve fallen in love with you now, sexy and stereotypical unshaven male lead! The End!”
So… The festival has been on for a full day, and Torontoist has very little to actually report, having stayed in for the night. Well, it did see the star of Short Cuts Canada film ‘Patterns’ (by Jamie Travis) wearing a stylish lime green dress and looking a bit confused, so there is that, if anything. That film is in Programme 5: Genre Redux, if you like the sound of her.
