Well, it's official. This year's Giller Prize has been awarded to Elizabeth Hay for her novel, Late Nights on Air. The announcement was made at a black-tie gala event that began earlier tonight. It was hosted by Seamus O'Regan of Canada AM, and aired live on Bravo! But if you're like Torontoist and don't have cable and missed it, don't worry. The event will broadcast again on CTV tomorrow at 8 p.m. The now co-sponsored......

Monday morning, amidst a first-rate buffet of coffee, chocolate chip cookies, and fresh orange juice at the Four Seasons Hotel, a disheveled group of journalists and bankers gathered to hear the shortlist announced for the 14th annual Scotiabank Giller Prize. Only the second year that the final contenders were culled from an initial longlist of 15 books, this annum the task fell to the jury of staunch decipherers David Bergen, Camilla Gibb and Lorna......

Late last week, the CRTC ordered CTVglobemedia to sell off the five Citytv properties it acquired in its purchase of CHUM Ltd., because CTV already operates over-the-air stations in those markets (Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg). Mayor Miller wants a citizen panel to review a proposed 8.9% pay raise. Currently Toronto City Councillors make significantly less than other southern Ontario city councillors. That being said, good luck with getting that raise during an election year. The Loonie hit a 28-year high probably because we're a major stable oil producer that isn't trying to get a nuclear weapons' program. Our dollar hit, are you sitting down, 91 cents to the US dollar.......

The awesomely observant Ann witnessed the following bizarre episode a couple of days ago at the intersection of Broadview and Danforth. Man in a silver SUV, stopping in the middle of the intersection and yelling out the window: BRAVO! Girl 1, crossing the street: He must be French! Girl 2, crossing the street: That's so hot.......
