So Bob Kinnear successfully negotiates a contract for Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113. The transit-using public breathes a sigh of relief, believing the threat of a transit strike to be past. A few days later, the union membership rejects the contract and surprises everyone by striking later that night. Sound familiar? Sure it does, but this time it's York Region's Viva instead of the TTC. Kinnear seems to be making a career of negotiating contracts that his members don't like. He did learn one thing from this spring's TTC strike debacle: Viva operators will be walking off the job at 4 a.m. instead of at the stroke of midnight. Get home while you can, kids.

Ding, ding, grumble, grumble…the TTC is back on track for the Monday morning commute, ushering in a new era of mutual respect, trust and fellowship between riders and employees. Anyway, it turns out that while Torontoist was trapped at home all weekend drinking and shaking an impotent fist at Bob Kinnear's smug televised face, there was non-TTC news going on out there too.

Torontoist is following the TTC's strike, using our own reporting, other local news sources, and any other resources available to us to keep this article updated continually with the latest information. Taxi! Taxi!

Sarah Lazarovic—curator of the garage-based Montrose Portrait Gallery of Canada—is painting a portrait of a Torontonian every day. Each Monday, we'll feature some of those portraits here. Suggestions for subjects welcome.

Our favourite civic phallic symbol is turning 30 soon, June 26th to be exact. It's still the world's tallest free-standing structure (what does this mean anyway?).

The Star leads with a story leaking the fact that the McGuinty government is going to announce that they'll want to build more nuclear plants now that their plans to scrap the province's coal plants aren't going forward anytime soon.

The man with the second most thankless job in the city (TTC Union head Bob Kinnear takes the cake for this one we think) has tendered his resignation. The Star has a nice PDF of it here and a story on the whole sordid situation. The CBC doesn't shed much more light except that it was Adam Giambrone who confirmed the resignation.

Turns out that the union was actually ready to walkout again yesterday. Fortunately a few last minute desperate phone calls prevented what would've been a disastrous second wildcat strike in as many weeks. The TTC and the union are still in intense negotiations. Hopefully they can avoid any future job actions.

Thankfully, yesterday's TTC strike fizzled out and the city's buses, subways and streetcars are now running again. Kevin McGran at the Star dissects yesterday's events and points to an automated phone message from union head Bob Kinnear as the spark that caused TTC employees to walk out.

You've probably already figured it out but the TTC is on strike. Metro Morning and the CBC are keeping us on top of things and they're reporting that Bob Kinnear, the head of the TTC union are willing to comply with orders from Ontario Labour Relations Board to go back to work. He's waiting for "the papers."

Everyone is talking about how TTC Operators will now turn a blind eye on those who are evading fares. The union is complaining about the rising number of assaults and "passenger rage." TTC Chair Howard Moscoe says that people still have to pay their fares. The Sun's story is here and has some wacky numbers like the fact that assaults have gone up over 30% in a decade. The Star's piece has more of the back and forth between TTC Chair Howard Moscoe, TTC Manager Rick Ducharme and Bob Kinnear president of the union representing TTC operators.
