Every Saturday morning, Historicist looks back at the events, places, and characters—good and bad—that have shaped Toronto into the city we know today.

Torontonian Vanessa Delsooz (not pictured) has organized an impromptu protest of proposed TTC cuts next Saturday July 28th at Nathan Phillips Square at 1 p.m. The rally will reportedly be outside the law, since it takes longer than a week to secure a permit for such things. Also, the office that issues protest permits just got eliminated due to budget cuts. (Just kidding. We think.)

San Francisco is proud host of a new reality show called "How to Get the Guy" that's unfortunately not a descendant of Will and Grace, Queer Eye, The L Word, American Idol etc. Also a biodefence lab is coming to the East Bay and SFist teaches wine pairing.

Torontoist is probably going to be forced to sacrifice our Canadian passport upon admitting this, but never mind: we've never actually been inside the Hockey Hall of Fame. However, we have always admired the dignified looking old building it is housed in, the former Bank of Montreal that the BCE Place was so lovingly constructed around. We would be disappointed if such a fetching structure didn't have at least one ghostly legend attached to it, but we needn't fear, for there are two, even if they are variations of the same story.
