2007_12_04_samurai.jpgA Milton woman went on a rampage with a samurai sword on Sunday, injuring her boyfriend and an off-duty firefighter, smashing windows at a gas station and hacking at a parked car. While Torontoist doesn't condone senseless irrational violence, you've got to give her points for style.

There’s nothing quite like leisurely strolling on a warm, sunny Saturday, exploring shops, nibbling some treats, and sipping some wine. Can this enticing combination be had in Toronto? Yes—tomorrow is the last day of Santé, the 9th annual Bloor-Yorkville wine festival, with several events left to round out your activities this Mother’s Day weekend.

phone.jpgYou know what's awesome? People on the internet who love the TTC. Torontoist is already firmly on board with the freelance public transit love, so it seemed only appropriate to alert the masses to another project in no way affiliated with the TTC that seeks to improve it.

Photo by kuzan 3 from Flickr. Toronto has been called a city of neighbourhoods: The Beach, Yorkville, Chinatown, Little Italy, Greektown, The Annex; all have their defining characteristics that make them appealing to locals as well as visitors. And when it comes down to it, most of these areas are well-defined by the intersection of two major streets. Those who live downtown generally stay downtown, but Avenue Road and Eglinton Avenue West is well-situated...

Tomorrow night at 7:01 pm is the start of a 12-hour, all-night extravaganza called Nuit Blanche. Everyone we talked to seems to know that it's happening (thanks to cover stories in ), but when pressed, few of those asked were clear on exactly what Nuit Blanche was, nor exactly what they're supposed to do. We thought Torontoist should step in and clear things up.

The transit loop at Avenue Road and Lawrence Avenue (across from Havergal College) will soon be transformed into a heart-shaped park. Along with the TTC, Lorne London (publisher of Post City Magazines) and city councillors Howard Moscoe and Karen Stintz are working to develop a beautiful neighbourhood park from an existing triangle-ish area of grass that measures nearly 100 by 100 feet. At the specified location, a lonely white sign with black and red lettering reads:

A righteous cellular alternative at Avenue Road and Dupont.

Thanks in part to a little shop in Greenwich Village, peanut butter has gone gourmet.  Peanut Butter & Co. has been tantalizing the taste buds of New Yorkers with it’s famous home-made PB, available in six varieties.  Nope, it’s not just smooth or chunky anymore. At PB & Co. peanut butter foodies have a choice between Cinnamon Raisin Swirl, Dark Chocolate Dreams or our favourite, White Chocolate Wonderful.

sonypsp.gifTo many, blogging is the epitome of nerd-like behaviour. A person willfully sits in front of a computer screen for hours, playing around with RSS feeds, HTML formatting, linking and Halo scan commenting. Did we mention blog-rolling? Nerdish to the max. However there does exists a more extreme case of nerdocious behaviour, and it was on full display this morning/last night around the Blockbuster/Future Shop/tech stores of the city. Sony PSP's hit retail stores today at 12:01 a.m., greeted by long lines of you-know-who's. There was even a PSP release party at the Blockbuster on Avenue Road (rumor has it the Vanilla Pepsi was flowing!). Other game related nerd stuff is that PokerRoom.com cashes with real-money Texas Hold'Em set up for mobile phone use.

Awkwardly pixelated Sunshine girl Sue-Ann Levy thinks Mayor HairLooksGood should be sweeping the city, mostly to get rid of the unsightly litter she encounters on her morning jog. But what's more alarming - that Levy jogs or that there are candy wrappers on Avenue Road? TOist isn't really sure, but, blinded by our unfettered and undying fascination with the mayor's prop collection, we will merely say that we disagree. No matter how much money we pour into litter management, there will always be one candy wrapper, or discarded copy of 24, or shrivelled old glove for people like Levy to harp on. She concedes:

In fairness, city officials have made some improvements. It only took seven years (since amalgmation(sic)) but responsibility for litter collection has now been consolidated under one manager.
