It's hard out there for a scenester these days. So many parties, so many DJs, so many Next Big Things... and so few brain cells to spare. We all know how important it is to like the right stuff, but between finding hot new ways to wear neon headgear (hint: there aren't any) and figuring out which prescription drugs don't mix, who has the mental energy to figure what exactly that stuff is? That's why......

Whoa, dude, that "tight-knit group of guys from rural Ontario" (or whatever) totally got some work done last week. Their thorough haranguing of Ashlee Simpson's ""performance"" at MuchMusic must have driven the poor faux-popster to the edge (where's Daddy Joe when you need him?), because she was spotted at a Toronto-area McDonald's wigging out in a drunken stupor. To the effect of telling a fan she can't take a picture with him because "You......

"Hey hey. Ho ho. Ashlee Simpson is a no-talent goat." That sort of taunt, made up this very second, could very well be included in the grass-roots movement to embarrass Ashlee Simpson today at Much Music. The group making the noise, headed up by some Ry-High students, has put forth the following message: We are meeting in front of Ryerson’s School of Image Arts building (122 Bond Street, close to Sam The Record Man)......

Yesterday, while listening to NPR for the obvious reasons, we heard a terrific interview with Ralph Fiennes. Terrific because at the very end of the interview, Leonard Lopate throws a curve at the pointy actor by asking him why he pronounces his name Rayfe. A short pause follows, and then Fiennes cobbles together an answer along the lines of 'that is actually how it was pronounced historically.' Now if we could only ask Chloë Sevigny......

Welcome February! Much like Tuesday, the second day of the week, you are usually boring. But not this time. Here are some items that may liven up Tuesday, and perhaps even the whole of February. - Take a Black History Month quiz. - Find out which 2004 hit single you most resemble. (Torontoist is Kelis's "Milkshake") - Learn to speak Latin. - Learn to speak rap. - Hate on Ashlee Simpson. - Find out Toronto's......

Tonight brings an infrequent opportunity to see vids that don't get the Much Music Ashlee Simpson treatment (ie-heavy roation). And that's a shame, because the offerings at tonight's 3rd annual Indie Music and Video fest promise visual treats of all varieties. Torontoist saw Pepe Deluxe's 'Girl' video at last year's WWSFF Scene and Not Heard program, and later at Resfest, but the video, a soul track that looks as if it's being interpreted by Milton......

Why does everyone always call Avril Lavigne the "Canadian pop-punk princess?" Well, maybe because she dressed up like a Hooters girl for Halloween and covered Outkast's "Hey Ya" in Philadelphia. Or, maybe it's because she's not afraid to diss Hillary Duff and/or Ashlee Simpson for not singing live. In a three question interview with the New York Post, the Canadian pop-punk princess commented on Ashlee Simpson's Saturday Night Live lip-synching debacle, saying that "[i]t's a......
