Reel Toronto: Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

So, here we are. Another average, big-time Hollywood film that treats our hometown like so much innocuous background. Damn you, Hollywood! Mr. Magorium isn't a terrible movie, but it sure is mediocre, especially given the front-of-camera talent here.

Reel Toronto: The Ref

Toronto's extensive work on the silver screen reveals that, while we have the chameleonic ability to look like anywhere from New York City to Moscow, the disguise doesn't always hold up to scrutiny. If you have one, you ought to bring it to Ambient Ping's Zen Garden Party tomorrow afternoon in the south-western greenhouse at the Allan Gardens Conservatory to "help create a moving sound-in-space experience." The Allan Gardens Conservatory, situated on the quaintly named Horticultural Avenue (at Carlton between Jarvis and Sherbourne), is a surprising oasis in the middle of a desert of asphalt and high-rises. Until January 1st, the Conservatory is host to the Christmas Flower Show 2006, where visitors can stroll through a sea of poinsettias and check out a Rudolph fashioned out of plants. A Christmas soundtrack is piped throughout the connected greenhouses, and if you go during the special evening hours between 5 and 7pm from now until the 23rd, and the 26th to the 30th, you get the added bonus of browsing by candlelight.
