ART: The subway gives us easy access to some of subterranean Toronto, but much more of what’s underground remains hidden from view. Running with this metaphor, “Beneath the Surface” challenges six Toronto-based artists to explore what lies within the pockets of their minds. The resulting art show will be airing on TTC platforms throughout the exhibition’s dates, but you can catch all the works in one place at tonight’s opening. Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts (984 Queen Street West), opening reception, 6 p.m.–9 p.m., FREE.

TALK SHOW: Pumpkins and cobwebs have arrived, which means you can go ahead and get into the Halloween spirit. If you’re looking for particularly comedic scares, check out the zombie clown Mullet (quick background: he died in 1747, washed up on shore 100 years later, and started a career in late-night comedy) as he returns for a special Halloween edition of his variety talk show. Tonight’s show features Thea Munster, creator of the Toronto Zombie Walk, and many more. Black Swan Tavern, second Floor (154 Danforth Avenue), 8 p.m., PWYC.

MUSIC: You know what’s a really neat trend in new music? Looping. If you’ve ever seen Owen Pallett or Atlas Sound live, then you’re familiar with the notion of a single musician looping various instrument sounds until they’ve recreated almost an entire band. Here, then, is jazzy artist Alissa Vox Raw, who will be presenting her looping style as part of a set for Indie Week (there are also several other artists playing throughout the night that are well worth checking out). Free Times Cafe (320 College Street), 7 p.m. (Raw’s set starts at 9:20 p.m.), $8.
