Abortions Make Toys Cry on January 23, 2008

Photo by Lina Aristizabal. Yesterday, January 21, was the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that decriminalized abortion in the United States. Monday marks the 20th anniversary of Canada's Morgentaler decision, a similar judgment that found the Criminal Code's abortion provision to be in violation of womens' Charter rights. But if living in Toronto teaches you only one thing, it's that there are gays; gays who want their dress-up parties. This Thursday marks the second appearance of the amazingly-named Steers and Queers, a quarterly queer country night at the Dakota Tavern.... [continue]
