ART: Tonight, the Liberty Grand hosts the opening night preview for Artist Project Toronto. In addition to bringing together works by close to one-hundred-and-fifty artists, this year’s exhibition also features a series of enlightening seminars, a contest for up-and-coming artists, and a chocolate competition (in which artists create works based on the theme of, you guessed it, chocolate!). A portion of the opening-night proceeds will go to charity, and an after party is slated for the Drake Hotel. The show runs to March 8, with various hours and ticket prices; see their website for full details. COMEDY: Today is Lunch Money Day, and there are two related items worth mentioning. Brennan’s debut solo release, One Hundred Photographs, is filled with songs of “everyday life and extraordinary experiences,” inspired by trips taken and people met along the way. Jay Clark and the Jones unleash their third disc, Blue Cholera, which filters themes of faith and societal breakdown through a working class lens. The show also features special guest opening act, Jack Breakfast. THEATRE: Harbourfront Centre‘s World Stage season continues with the critically acclaimed Tshepang, from playwright Lara Foot Newton. Set in South Africa and based on actual events, Tshepang uses striking visual imagery and symbolic set design to tell the story of the highly publicized trial of six men wrongly accused of the brutal sexual assault of a child. Ultimately, in spite of the difficult subject matter, the play is a story of love, redemption, and forgiveness in the face of an appalling situation. Play runs through Saturday, February 21. Studio Theatre, York Quay Centre (235 Queens Quay West), 8 p.m., $30.

FILM: Night #2 of the Kevin Smith Fest lights up the screen at the Bloor Cinema tonight, with the pairing of Mallrats at 7:00 p.m., followed by Chasing Amy at 9:30 p.m. Chasing Amy is considered by many critics to be one of Smith’s most mature and fully realized films, while Mallrats is arguably most notable for being the first of many collaborations between Kevin Smith and actors Jason Lee and Ben Affleck (who also happen to appear in Chasing Amy). Smith will be on hand for a Q&A after each screening. Kids and adults alike have the opportunity to shake their booty and learn the robot dance from an actual robot. The sci-fi disco bash takes over CiRCA with a blowout party full of raffles, dance lessons, costumed aliens, robots, and more. Entrance includes a loot bag for each family, and a bar with refreshments is available.
