- A pink “blob” invaded a Kathleen Wynne photo op earlier today, thus providing a gift to headline writers everywhere. The premier was at Jarvis Collegiate to promote the proposed post-secondary tuition grant for low-income students when she posed in front of a high school science project. But the pink blob looks like something else entirely, something that would see Conservative moral crusader Monte McNaughton cower under his desk. That makes it all worth it, really.
- The TTC had another one of those days if you were trying to commute downtown in the morning rush hour. A fire in a hydro vault on Richmond Street East paralyzed the downtown transit system this morning, as both subways and streetcars were stopped in their tracks. One hundred and thirty shuttle buses took to the streets to try to replace the transit capacity, but transit riders were left frustrated with long waits and general chaos.
- If you’ve been to the Toronto Reference Library more than a few times, you’re probably familiar with the Grand and Toy site at 771 Yonge Street. In not-so-shocking news, developer Menkes is proposing a 49 storey condo with 322 units. The development proposal, which does not yet have any approvals at city hall, would include 322 parking spaces for bikes but none for cars, and would effectively squeeze the Britnell’s Starbucks between two large towers.
