WHERE: Ward’s Island

WHEN: Friday, August 1

WHAT: A musical procession of puppets, lanterns, and fancy hats, culminating in a giant bonfire party on the sandy beach. The family-friendly event was organized by Shadowland, a theatre company based on the Toronto Islands. Before the festivities began, there were lantern workshops, stilt-walking rehearsals, and a Shadowland slideshow. And as night fell, hundreds paraded to the shoreline and gathered around a fire 20 feet tall to dance, sing, and celebrate.
