Extra, Extra: High Park Alligators, Superman Would Be Ashamed, and 13-Year-Old Takes on Doug Ford

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

  • Why, what’s that active little creature swimming about actively in a High Park pond? Certainly looks like a “alligator-like reptile” to us—and apparently looks like an adult caiman to those who know slightly more about alligator-like reptiles. The City of Toronto’s animal services department has been contacted, as there probably shouldn’t be a “semi-aquatic reptile similar to the alligator and native to tropical climates” swimming about in a High Park pond.
  • DC Entertainment will not allow the Superman logo to appear on a memorial statue for five-year-old Jeffrey Baldwin, who was starved to death by his grandparents in 2002. When asked whether the logo could be used, DC’s senior vice-president of business and legal affairs responded that “for a variety of legal reasons, we are not able to accede to the request, nor many other incredibly worthy projects that come to our attention.” Which superhero slogan is that? We cannot quite recall which superhero says something along those lines before rushing off to do something heroic.
  • In May, Doug Ford said of a group home for developmentally disabled youth: “My heart goes out to kids with autism. But no one told me they’d be leaving the house.” When a City employee who also happens to be father to an autistic child complained about Ford’s comments, Doug accused him of being part of a jihad against the Ford brothers. Now Doug has received an email from a 13-year-old boy with autism. It starts with “Mr. Ford my name is Scott Smith and I have autism and I don’t like what you say or how said it because I made an anti bullying club and I know what is Right and wrong,” finishes with “Your words hurt people (like I say to grade one),” and is pretty remarkable.

No link to the 13 year old boy’s letter?

I’m sure Doug will accuse that autistic kid of being part of the lefty pinko conspiracy to stop the Fords from saving the city a billion gajillion dollars.

    • Notcleverguy

Just another Doug Ford example of a racial jihad.

  • dsmithhfx

One almost has to to pity an overgrown, stupid bully made to suffer a public beat-down at the hands of a 13-year old kid.

    Almost.

  • Notcleverguy

The letter really puts perspective on how hurtful Doug Ford is.
The sad thing is though, Doug Ford most likely doesn’t care.

    • AboveTheCity

Clearly he does not care as, Doug told him, “to go to hell”! Good grief. How did this miscreant ever get elected.

Perhaps DC Entertainment didn’t like what was done with the likeness of Superman in a statute that was commissioned by Fidel Castro years ago:
