Thousands gathered in Nathan Phillips Square for the festival's formal kick-off.
WHERE: Nathan Phillips Square
WHEN: Friday, June 20
WHAT: WorldPride’s opening ceremony, which treated thousands of people to the official flag-raising, a fireworks show, and a free concert featuring artists such as Steve Grand, Deborah Cox, and Melissa Etheridge. This year, the original creator of the rainbow flag—artist and activist Gilbert Baker—was on hand to raise it for Pride. The festival will run until June 29, and close out with another concert—this one featuring Tegan and Sara, among others—at Yonge-Dundas Square.
