Extra, Extra: Toronto Dreams, Buying Spiderman, and Alien Art

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

20140403 ntergalactic Art Project piETa at AGO 081 75

  • For a while now, the Toronto Dreams Project has been bringing fictional dreams about real people from Toronto history to locations all over our city. Now, creator Adam Bunch wants your help taking Toronto dreams to the citizens of the U.K.—he’s launched an Indiegogo campaign, and if he meets his fundraising goal, he’ll visit cities like London, Cardiff, Dunkeswell, and Budleigh Salterton, and leave behind postcards explaining how these places are connected to Toronto history.
  • Do you like comics and very rare things? Do you also have money and an interest in spending it? In honour of the release of the new Amazing Spider-Man #1, beloved Toronto comic book store The Beguiling will be auctioning off copies of what store owner Peter Birkemoe calls “Holy Grail” books for comic book collectors: Amazing Fantasy #15 (1963) and Amazing Spider-Man #1 (1963). Bidding will start at $5,000 for the former and $2,500 CDN for the latter.
  • If you (a) feel the urge to create an image or video about whether art is alien, and/or (b) want the chance to win a one-year membership to the AGO, you should create an image or video about whether art is alien and follow the steps outlined here.
