Winner would give loser a CD—but no beer.
You may already be aware that that Toronto Raptors are currently doing pretty well. Sure, they’re one game down to the Brooklyn Nets in their first-round playoff matchup, but they are, after all, in the playoffs—and that’s an accomplishment any Toronto sports fan can appreciate.
On April 19, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams suggested that if the Raptors were to win, he’d be willing to send something along to our mayor that represents Brooklyn—a Jay-Z or Beyoncé CD, say, or some locally brewed beer. Ford, though, responded that he’d rather the wager not involve alcohol, because that would “get spun.”
So now Adams is back with a new and beer-less proposal: official associated with winning basketball team gives official associated with losing basketball team a CD of his “favourite local artist.”
It seems pretty likely the Brooklyn-to-Toronto CD might be called something along the lines of Magna Carta Holy Grail or Beyoncé, but what would “embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford” (fast becoming his proper name in the American press) dispatch to Brooklyn? Would he be justified in sending anything at all that wasn’t by Drake?
