If you have the perfect name for a thoroughfare by the lake, Waterfront Toronto wants to hear from you.
Perhaps you’ve always been fond of streets named after people (like, say, Jarvis or Bloor streets), or after synonyms of “street”/the way Scottish surveyors pronounced words (the origins of “Avenue Road” are not entirely clear). Whatever the case, you now have a chance to make your street-naming feelings known, and to express your creativity: Waterfront Toronto is asking for the public’s help in finding a proper name for what is currently known only as “Main Waterfront Drive,” located in the new East Bayfront neighbourhood that stretches from Lower Jarvis Street east to Parliament, and from Lake Shore Boulevard south to the lake.
You have until March 27 to submit your suggestion(s) via Twitter or online—people will then have a chance to vote for their favourites between April 22 and May 2. While we certainly can’t predict what many of the submissions will be, we’re willing to bet some of them will involve a certain former prime minister.
