Recently released Canadians still unable to leave Egypt.
Toronto-based filmmaker John Greyson and London physician Tarek Loubani have just released a short video in which, faces beaming, they thank Canadians for the support they’ve received. The two were arrested in Cairo on August 16, shortly after helping injured protesters at a rally, and spent 51 days in prison without charge. After a great deal of pressure from Canada, they were released, but officials have not yet permitted them to leave Egypt. As diplomatic work to secure their full freedom continues, Loubani and Greyson wanted to let their supporters back home know that they are doing well: “We’re stuck a bit—the ordeal’s not over—but for now, we thought we’d say hi, peace…and also very importantly, thank you. Thank you for all your support.”
