Some Torontonians are reluctant to swim in the lake, but not these people.
WHERE: Ward’s Island Beach
WHEN: Sunday, August 18
WHAT: It’s one of summer’s conundrums: Why does it seem like Torontonians who otherwise love the beach are often reluctant to set foot in Lake Ontario? The City regularly tests the water quality at public swimming areas, and most of the time it’s fine. On Sunday, around 250 swimmers decided to throw caution to the wind and race each other as part of the Toronto Island Lake Swim. Some did a 1.5-kilometre course, while others opted for a 3.8-kilometre marathon. Nobody emerged from the water with dysentery or mutant superpowers.
