“There’s nothing happening with the BIA and the flagpole right now. We are at a standstill with that. It’s not an ongoing issue.”
—Farina, the executive director of the Emery Village Business Improvement Area, said this to the Star when questioned about the status of a plan to build North America’s largest flagpole near Finch Avenue and Highway 400. Approved by city council in 2010 after some intense lobbying by local councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West), the huge pole was supposed to become a patriotic tourist attraction. Now, more than two years after it was supposed to have been erected (heh, heh) the Star says the City still hasn’t even gotten as far as buying the land.
