“Money is protection.”
—Mohamed Siad said these words during his first encounter with Star reporters Kevin Donovan and Robyn Doolitle, when he attempted to sell them a video that appeared to show Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack. (Siad’s name and this quote were revealed in a Star article published earlier today.) The U.S. website Gawker raised more than $200,000 from the public to buy the video, but Siad didn’t take the money, after all. According to today’s Star, he’s now in jail on charges related to June’s Project Traveller gang raids, in segregation after apparently being stabbed by another inmate. The video’s fate isn’t public knowledge, but there’s a possibility it was seized by police.
