  • It’s well-known restaurant eviction day in Toronto, apparently. Hope you didn’t like Tortilla Flats[Via Reddit]

  • On a similarly food-y note, here’s one more reason never to buy cheese from a weird guy on the street: it’s probably stolen.

One person’s eviction is another person’s attempt to get some of their money back. Nobody likes it when people are evicted for the sake of building a condo or something like that. But those two places were evicted cause they didn’t pay rent and didn’t work things out with ownership.

Having watched family members be on the end of a tenant not paying their bills and said tenant then declaring bankruptcy, and seeing what that does to the owner, I have little sympathy for these restauranteurs.

If you can’t pay the bills, start talking to the owners and work out an exit strategy.

And, no, your status as artistic restaurant types does not excuse you ripping off the landlord.

(I am well aware there maybe circumstances involved here, including possibly a nasty landlord….but not paying your bills means somebody isn’t getting income – this isn’t Robin Hood vs. the Sherrif of Nottingham here)
