  • Apparently something not great is supposed to happen with the weather tonight?
  • Worse by far: every year, dozens of homeless people die on Toronto’s streets. The Grid‘s David Topping has put together an infographic that breaks down the deaths (the recorded ones, at any rate) by year. There are a couple of other graphics on his blog.
  • Today, at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show, Mayor Rob Ford met some animal friends. Here’s a video of him acting all uncomfortable around an owl. The owl vote is effectively lost to him now. [Via Jackson Proskow]
  • This is how Vice magazine explains, to its readers, the futility of fighting Toronto’s condo boom: “To stop it, you’d have to stop capitalism itself, which is a discussion for another day. Besides, it would be even weirder if a neighbourhood stayed the same forever, and as depressing as those dudes who peaked in high school and are still wearing the same stupid t-shirt a decade later.”

That’s one disturbing infographic, but it seems to show the effect of the Harrisites war on the poor, Harris was elected in 1995, in 1996 the number of deaths per year really starts to sky rocket and continues to this day since McGuinty did almost nothing, at least nothing effective to undo the damage Harris did to our social safety net and welfare system. I vividly recall seeing the number of homeless people in my neighbourhood double after the Harris cuts, it was horrible watching people loose everything they had, not just material things but their self respect and self dignity as they had to resort to pan handling. I highly doubt its a coincidence in timing.
