For Mayor Rob Ford, it all comes down to this. Several news outlets are reporting that the verdict on Ford’s appeal of the November court decision that ordered him removed from office is scheduled for release on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. The appeal decision could finalize Ford’s removal, forcing city council to weigh different options for replacing him. (You can find out about those options here.) It could also reverse the original lower court decision, allowing Ford to remain in office.
Ford’s case hinges on whether or not he breached the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act by speaking and voting during a city council debate related to his private charity, the Rob Ford Football Foundation. If the three divisional court justices presiding over the appeal rule that Ford was in conflict, the law—at least as interpreted by Justice Charles Hackland, who ruled on the case in November—requires Ford to be turfed.
