A silent march, and calls for action from Indian authorities.
WHERE: En route to the Indian Consulate at Bloor and Sherbourne streets
WHEN: Thursday, January 3, 12 p.m.
WHAT: Several dozen protesters held a silent march yesterday, starting at Bloor and Bay streets and walking east to the Consulate General of India at Bloor and Sherbourne streets, calling attention to the treatment of women in India. This is one of countless protests that have been taking place globally in the wake of the brutal gang rape and beating of a 23-year-old woman on Delhi bus—an assault which is now a murder, as the woman died of her injuries on December 29. When the protesters arrived, they handed over a petition signed by about 300 individuals, calling on Indian law enforcement to take sexual assault more seriously.
