In today's Urban Planner: merry opera, comic pantomime, and a rocking in-between-holidays party.
OPERETTA: This year’s annual holiday show from Toronto Operetta Theatre is The Merry Widow, which they’ve mounted in the past to considerable acclaim. It opens tonight and runs until January 6. St. Lawrence Centre For The Arts (27 Front Street East), 8 p.m., $66–$95.
PANTOMIME: Now an east side tradition at the Red Sandcastle Theatre, this year’s pantomime show, The Shoe-Maker and the Pant-O-Mimes!, tells the story of “The Shoemaker and the Elves” with song, dancing, and comedy suitable for all ages. Red Sandcastle Theatre (922 Queen Street East), 7 p.m., $10–$25.
PARTY: The ladies of She Does The City recently relaunched their popular local blog, and they’re celebrating with tonight’s #StayGolden party, hosted by Becca Lemire, with DJ Cherry Pops (a.k.a. comedian Laura Cilevitz) spinning a “classic rock dance mess” all night long. Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West), 10 p.m., $5.
