Extra, Extra: Token Holders, Diverse Neighbourhoods, and Outlaw Taxis

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Spacing magazine really seems to have its finger on the pulse of the TTC-obsessed holiday shopper this year. First there were the subway-line magnets, and now the magazine is touting this handy, $5 TTC-token holder. Get it before the whole system switches to Presto. You still have plenty of time.
  • The National Post‘s infographic department has taken a break from the news to make a stunningly detailed infographic of every zombie kill in all three seasons of AMC’s The Waking Dead. That’s edutainment.
  • The Grid has figured out which neighbourhoods are Toronto’s most and least diverse, using magic statistics. It turns out downtown is neither especially diverse, nor especially homogenous. The extremes are in places you might not expect.
  • Uber, the smartphone-based luxury taxi service, is now in trouble with the City for not getting a licence to act as a dispatcher before setting up shop here. The company’s general manager doesn’t seem to be striking a very contrite tone in interviews. It should be interesting to see where things go from here.

  • Perfecto

Don’t pay more. The manufacturer Safekeepsafe Products’s website lists the 7 downtown dollar stores that sell the token holder for $2-$3. Meanwhile, Spacing charges $2.84 for shipping. Google “TTC Token Holder” for more info.

Perfecto: those token holders you talk about are just the worst, are not compact, and hold 8. I got my Rocket Wheel today and it is about 100-times better than those crappy ones. And I much prefer to support Spacing than your China-made pieces of crap.

They sold these in other cities.. in the 1960′s..
